Couple champions nursing at 曼彻斯特 with labs, scholarships 

曼彻斯特 University’s young nursing program has champions in Dr. Harry Keffer和Dr. Jan Keffer来说.  
keffer来说的, 谁住在费舍尔, were on the North 曼彻斯特 campus this fall to help dedicate the Keffer Nursing Lab. 

Retired health care professionals, the Keffers also provided MU’s nursing lab in Fort 韦恩 和 scholarships to 曼彻斯特’s first nursing students.

This is the first year for two nursing degree tracks at 曼彻斯特:

• Traditional students pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree will study the first two years in North 曼彻斯特 和 the second two years in Fort 韦恩. 
  
• μ的16个月 Accelerated BSN Second Degree Program is for students with a bachelor’s degree in another field who would like to become a registered nurse. Full time 和 in person, the program has classrooms 和 a nursing lab in the Parkview Mirro Center for Research 和 Innovation in Fort 韦恩. 的 Mirro Center is on the campus of Parkview North hospital, which is next door to 曼彻斯特’s Fort 韦恩 campus.
  
  “We are grateful to Harry 和 Jan for many things,” said President Dave McFadden at the dedication. “We are appreciative of your commitment, which is our commitment, to graduating students who will improve the human condition, who will help people be healthy 和 whole.”
  
  Lea约翰逊, MU vice president for health science initiatives 和 dean of health professions, said the Keffers shared her vision for nursing education from the start. 
  
  “You have opened your hearts to our program. I know you really want to help our students 和 you want 曼彻斯特’s nursing program to be a success. And I promise you, it will be,” Johnson told the Keffers. “A new chapter of your health care legacy is just beginning 和 will continue at 曼彻斯特 for many years to come.”
  
  Harry Keffer graduated from 曼彻斯特 in 1959. After earning a medical degree from Northwestern University School of Medicine, he served in a medical group of the U.S. 空军. During more than 30 years with Terre Haute’s Union Hospital, he was chief of staff, chief of anesthesiology 和 chief of surgery. He also taught at Indiana University (IU) School of Medicine in Terre Haute. 
  
  Jan Keffer来说 earned a bachelor’s degree from Indiana State University (ISU), a master’s degree from IU 和 a Ph.D. in nursing from the University of Illinois at Chicago. Throughout her clinical career as a primary health care adult nurse practitioner, she developed numerous nursing 和 nursing ethics courses. 她在ISU教书, IU School of Medicine 和 IU in Indianapolis, including at the IU Center for Bioethics.
  
  “It is our privilege to help support 曼彻斯特 和 this program 和 to move it forward,” Jan Keffer来说 said at the dedication. “We believe strongly in paying forward.”
  
  的 护理程序 build on 曼彻斯特’s traditional strengths in health sciences. In addition to undergraduate programs, it offers a 药学博士, Master of Athletic Training 和 Master of Science in Pharmacogenomics. It is developing graduate programs in 营养科学, physical therapy 和 occupational therapy. 本科 营养科学 major begins in fall 2022.
